A roll forward consists of two steps. First, the original contract is terminated. Then a new position is initiated with a later course. These two steps are usually performed simultaneously to reduce slippage or erosion due to a change in the price of the underlying. Roll Forward refers to the extension of the expiry or duration of an option, futures contract or forward by concluding the original contract and opening a new long-term contract for the same underlying market price. A roll forward allows the dealer to maintain the position beyond the initial end of the contract, as options and futures contracts have finite expiry dates. As a general rule, it is carried out shortly before the expiry of the original contract and requires that the profit or loss be offset by the original contract. For example, think of a reseller that has a call option that expires in June with a strike price of $10 for Widget Company. The stock is trading at 12 $US. As the call option is about to expire, if the distributor stays on Widget Company bullish, it can choose to maintain its investment and protect profits by selling the June Call option or at the same time buying a call option that expires in September with a strike price of 12 USD. This „roll up“ at a higher strike price reduces the premium for the second option (compared to the purchase of a new strike call worth $10), which protects some of the profits from the first trade.  Characteristics that can make rollup particularly attractive are particularly important when there are many small players in a fragmented market or in areas where technology can play a role in reviving low-margin industries. The other reason why companies make rollups is achievable repeatedly on higher profits in large-scale enterprises, compared to small mother and pop operations that remain vulnerable to changing markets and poor access to capital markets. [Citation required] Waste management was the most remarkable rollup in the 1970s and 1980s. The acquisition of 133 pickup trucks through waste management quickly became the largest waste treatment company in the United States. AutoNation has also been a successful rolling effort in the car dealership area, led by Wayne Huizenga, founder of Waste Management.  A recent rollup is Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, which has used more than $30 billion to buy out more than 100 companies.  The main objective of a rollup is to reduce costs by making economies of scale. It also increases the valuation multipliers that the company can order if it gets larger scales.
